Guidance for students moving campus

Guidance for students moving campus

We are committed to continuing our support for you, so your move to studying at a new campus is as smooth as possible.  This page contains details about extra support initiatives and key services.

Student Bursary

The University has created this bursary to help you with some of the extra costs you may incur as part of studying at your new campus.

You will be eligible for the Relocation Bursary provided you:

  • Have successfully completed your current level of study at Rochester, and
  • Are fully enrolled onto your new level of study at your receiving campus during the published enrolment period. You will be emailed a form to complete in April, asking you to confirm the bank account details you wish the bursary to be paid into.  This will need to be a bank account in your name, as we cannot make payments to a third party.

A single payment of £1,000 will be paid to this account on or after 21 August 2023.

Please note that this bursary award does require you to be fully enrolled and in attendance on your course at your new campus on 31 October 2023.  If this is not the case, then full repayment of the Bursary will be required.

If you have any questions regarding the Relocation Bursary, then please email adviceroch@uca.ac.uk.

Student Finance

Applications for 2023/24 student finance are now open. Students continuing their studies must complete their application by Friday 23 June 2023.

We encourage you to apply online now to ensure that your application is processed in good time and your funding is sorted for September 2023.

Our Specialist Advisers can support you if you need help with your application. Please contact us for a confidential appointment directly by emailing adviceroch@uca.ac.uk.

Accommodation

Many of you have participated in face-to-face and online presentations about transferring to student accommodation in Epsom or Farnham, with some students already taking part in campus visits.

You should have also received a student accommodation guide. Further guidance and contact information will be provided in April and over the summer.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please get in touch with us at rochesteraccommodation@uca.ac.uk or call 01634 888723.

Library & Learning Services

You can access the Rochester campus library until 30 September 2023. As a UCA student, you can also use any other UCA campus library.

Students transferring from Rochester to another UCA campus can join Library orientation events at their new campus during Welcome Week. Further information to follow. In the meantime, please visit myLibrary for the latest news and events.

Wellbeing and Counselling

Although Wellbeing and Counselling support at UCA Rochester will end on 31 July 2023, virtual assistance, including access to our digital wellbeing portal, will continue to be available.

There you’ll find access to 24/7 digital support, tools to boost your health and wellbeing, and information about local and third-party support groups or service.

What if I am on a Wellbeing plan?

By the end of May 2023, if you've enrolled on a UCA Wellbeing Plan, you'll be invited to attend a review meeting. During the meeting, we'll talk about any additional support you may require to help you prepare for your next steps.

If you're relocating to another UCA campus, you'll also be invited to a Welcome Week check-in appointment, and more details will be provided soon.

    Student Finance England
After the Easter break, students will be offered appointments to meet with the Rochester Specialist Adviser to provide any support required to reapply for Student Finance England loans.

Care Leavers, Carers and Estranged Students
If you are a Care Leaver, Carer or Estranged Student moving to another UCA campus, you will have been contacted and invited to meet with your new campus Designated Member of Staff (DMS). If that is not the case, please get in touch with Anna Mepstead via amepstead@uca.ac.uk.

  • Disability & SpLD

    Reapplying for DSA
If you are a second-year student with existing Disability & SpLD support moving to another UCA campus, you should have been contacted in February by your Rochester Learning Support Manager (LSM) regarding reapplying for DSA.

If you haven’t heard from us, be sure to contact your current LSM as soon as possible or get in touch with us at disability@uca.ac.uk.

    Inclusive Learning Plan (ILP)
To help students with an existing ILP transitioning to a different UCA campus, we are arranging a virtual introductory meeting and Q&A with your new campus Learning Support Manager and/or Dyslexia & SpLD Adviser. Invites for the introductory session will be sent after the Easter break.

Further meetings and a campus visit are planned for later in the year.

    Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs)
If you are a student with PEEPs but no ILP, and are moving to another UCA campus, you will be provided with the LSM contact details for your new campus by the end of September 2023.

    Wellbeing Plans
If you are currently on a Wellbeing Plan, you’ll be invited to a review meeting by the end of May 2023. As part of the review to update your plan, we will discuss any extra support you may require to aid your transition to your new campus.

Wellbeing and Counselling support at UCA Rochester will close on the 31 July 2023, although wellbeing virtual support including access to our digital wellbeing tools, will remain in place.

You are never alone, and there is always help available to you. From 24/7 mental health support through the togetherall.com service to practical advice on creating healthy habits via the UCA Wellbeing app (iOS / Android).

For general wellbeing advice and support, please see our Health & Wellbeing pages.

    NHS and local services
We know that many students use NHS and other local support services. For students moving to another UCA campus, we will help you transfer NHS support (including GP and local community mental health team) to your new local centre by ensuring you have the correct contact information.

If you are an RTS student looking to return to UCA in 2023/24, we will arrange a meeting in the summer to agree on the support you require to successfully return to your studies in your new environment.
