FAQs

  • What is the Creative Learning Framework?

Our new Creative Learning Framework outlines a clear, structured learning journey that is industry-aligned and future-focussed.

The framework is designed to support the success of every UCA student. It underpins the development of your creative identity, confidence, and employability by connecting learning to professional practice, industry engagement, and real-world contexts.

  • Why is it being introduced?

Courses go through re-validation cycles every three to five years. We have used this opportunity now to develop a future-focussed framework, ensuring our curriculum continues to respond to evolving industry expectations, rapid technological change in creative practice, and growing emphasis on sustainability, inclusion, and social impact.

Undergraduate courses have been re-validated, better described as re-designed, and co-developed with creative industry partners, as well as staff and you, our students.

We are introducing our re-designed UG courses for the 2026/27 academic year. This includes changes to how courses are:

    • Structured – to improve clarity and coherence of learning across your course
    • Taught – strengthen skills development and readiness for future careers
    • Assessed – make assessment clearer and more balanced
  • What does it mean for me?

Most UG courses have been re-validated. We are letting all students know, however this will only affect some of you. Please refer to the below to see if the Creative Learning Framework affects you.

  • What exactly is changing?

The Student Portal contains links to two documents: How the CLF will affect your course document and the new Course Information Document for your course to help you understand the changes that will come into effect from September.

  • What should I do if I have a question?

Please speak to your Programme Director or if you prefer, do email them or studentnotices@uca.ac.uk.

  • If affected, why are we asking you to let us know if you are NOT happy to continue with your studies in September?

Because the changes to courses are considered material changes under student contract and consumer protection guidance, we must give students:

    • Clear and accurate information
    • Transparency about your options
    • A genuine opportunity to object

This ensures fairness and protects your rights as a student.

  • How does this process work?

We are using the process outlined below, which is commonly used across the High Education sector for large-scale curriculum changes.

This means for those affected the full details of the changes to your course will be outlined and you will have 10 working days to review the information:

    • If you are happy, you do not need to do anything
    • If you are unhappyyou can let us know via the link sent to you in an email on Monday March 16
  • If I am happy to continue my studies in September, do I have to do anything?

No, you do not have to do anything. Only those who are NOT happy need to let us know via the link sent in an email on Monday March 16.

  • What happens if I don’t do anything?

If you do not do anything within the 10 working days then we will assume you are satisfied with the changes to your course and are happy to continue with your studies in September

  • If 25% or more of those students whom the CLF and subsequent re-designed courses affect, across the University, let us know they are not happy to continue with their studies in September 2026, what happens?

Because we have co-developed the re-designed courses with you, our students, we hope you are all happy to continue with your studies in September. We will be monitoring responses carefully. However, if this were to happen, then the CLF and subsequent re-designed courses will not be introduced for current students.

New students joining in September 2026 on Level4/Year 1 will benefit from the changes, consequently we will have further conversations with those of you progressing from Level 3/Integrated Foundation Year (IFY) on to Level 4/Year 1 about your options.

  • What happens if I am not happy to continue with my studies in September 2026, but most other students are happy to?

The deadline has now passed for the opt-out phase for the CLF, and we are pleased to letyou knowan overwhelmingmajority of studentswhom the changes affect, across the University, arehappy to continue withtheirstudies in September2026on thecourses that have been re-designed.

If you still have any questions or concerns about the changes to your course that haven’t been addressed, we ask that youreachout to your Programme Director or email  Student Notices.

  • If I have a question or concern that is not addressed/resolved by the deadline of 5pm on Friday March 27, 2026, is it considered I am happy to continue with my studies in September 2026?

If you have a question or concern about the CLF and subsequent re-designed courses, we ask that you reach out to your Programme Director or email  Student Notices as soon as possible to allow time for us to respondand you to consider your options further before the deadline. If you do not let us know  you are NOT happy by the deadline of 5pm on Friday March 27, 2026, then it will be considered you are happy to continue with your studies in September 2026.
